Food for Gut Health

Gut Health, Gastroenterology, Gastrointestinal, FODMAP and SIBO Nutrition Experts

Digestive conditions can be truly debilitating and life-altering. For instance, patients who struggle with gut health may experience constipation, diarrhea, weight fluctuations, discomfort, bloating, and more. Also, many people with gastrointestinal problems suffer fatigue and low energy levels. This is due to lack of necessary nutrients. It’s also not uncommon for people to develop eating disorders. Many try to implement FODMAP and SIBO-friendly diets, but without professional guidance selecting food for gut health. Moreover, digestive conditions are often poorly addressed in conventional healthcare settings.

We use root-cause assessments to address digestive conditions. This is then followed by a customized diet plan that includes:

  • Diet quality, which includes nutrient density
  • Minimize or avoid trigger foods
  • Specific meal plans and recipes, to keep stress low
  • An individualized plan for supplements such as probiotics, prebiotics, and more
  • Finally, an environmental assessment and plan, to provide the gut the ability to heal

How Our Diet and Nutrition Plans Improve Digestion and Wellness

After assessing for and identifying the root causes of the problem, we can then help with these conditions. For instance, we look for problems with digestive health, inflammation, dysbiosis, infections, and motility. Then, we create a customized diet plan that:

  • Identifies and removes trigger foods
  • Improves digestion
  • Reduces pain and symptoms
  • Improves gut health (gets rid of the underlying problems)
  • Prevents recurrence

Digestive problems can come from a variety of underlying causes. For example, previous antibiotic exposure may reduce healthy gut bacteria. Slowed mobility, due to surgery or inflammation, can allow bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine (SIBO). This overgrowth can then reduce production of important digestive enzymes. Low stomach acid may also reduce digestive capacity as well. An inadequate diet can also contribute to problems with digestive health. Finally, problems with the immune system can cause autoimmune conditions and/or food sensitivities that cause symptoms beyond digestive problems. This includes brain fog, joint pain, hypothyroidism, dry eyes, and more.

We’re not just dietitians, but Integrative and Functional Certified Nutrition Practitioners. We work with patients to get to the root cause of their gastrointestinal problems. By addressing both diet and lifestyle, our dietary interventions target gut health and improve quality of life.
